The Thirty-Second Rule.

If you're not the best conversationalist in the world, here's something that'll help.

Whenever you converse with another person, believe it or not, you spend more effort rehearsing what you're going to say next than actually listening to the other person. If you don't believe me, look for it the next time you're engaged in a 1 on 1 conversation.

If something pops into your mind that you want to say to the other person, instead of saying at the next opportune time, wait thirty seconds and see if it still needs to be said.

If yes, great, say it.

If not, move on.

The key to being a great conversationalist is to get the other person talking and for you to listen to them.

That's why repeating the last important word or phrase the other person said also works very well.
